March 2026: Kim Walker

This March, The Rising Gallery presents a new body of work by Kim Walker, where performance, memory, and place intertwine.

Blurring the line between drawing and sculpture, these pieces act as storyboards for performances yet to unfold - imagined scenes shaped by architectural spaces, objects, and movement. From intimate corners of nature to vast built environments, the work traces personal journeys through landscapes both real and remembered.

Rooted in the South West, Walker’s practice brings together a background in performance and a deep exploration of mark-making, creating works that feel both contemplative and quietly cinematic.

Artist Statement

This body of work combines my early live performance work with my later intrigue in mark making and drawing. Like storyboards, these sculptural sketches represent the performances that have not yet been; architectural environments they would inhabit, the connection with specific objects and the interaction with the space. They explore memories and journeys to places that hold personal experiences, in small corners of nature to magnificent architectural giants.

After studying at the University of Wales in Cardiff and Winchester School of Art Kim moved to the South West, settling in Shepton Mallet working as both a professional artist and Art teacher.
