In this hands-on session, you’ll create your own enclosed terrarium using carefully chosen plants, moss, stones, and layered soils — learning the foundations of planting, composition, and long-term care as you go.
Hosted in The Green Room at The Black Thistle, this workshop is designed as a calm, creative space to slow down and reconnect — with nature, with making, and with the simple pleasure of working with your hands.

Join us for a relaxed, creative session where you’ll learn the art of macramé and create your own handmade plant hanger — perfect for bringing a little texture and movement into your space.
Held in The Green Room at The Black Thistle, this workshop is designed as a calm, welcoming space to slow down and enjoy the rhythm of making. You’ll be guided through the foundational knots step by step, with plenty of time to settle into the process and create something truly your own.
Whether you’re completely new or simply looking for a mindful way to spend an afternoon, this session is easy-going, supportive, and quietly satisfying.

Saturday 22nd August - 10.30am - 2.30pm
Discover how to form and roll clay as you create your own trio of delicately formed posy pots. Stylish stencilling technique to create unique surface decoration all of your own. We’ll provide a former for the initial structure, but the design of the posy pots is entirely up to your imagination! After the workshop, your tutor will professionally fire and glaze your hand-painted pieces. Your completed display will then be returned to The Black Thistle for easy collection.

Learn the art of macramé, with a margarita in hand
Join us for a relaxed, creative evening of knots, cord, and conversation as you craft your own macramé plant hanger — all set within the calm, plant-filled surroundings of The Black Thistle.
Held in The Green Room, this special edition workshop blends mindful making with a little indulgence. As you learn the foundations of macramé, you’ll be sipping on a seasonal margarita (or a non-alcoholic alternative), lovingly supplied by our neighbours at Bar 501.

Saturday 3rd October - 10:30am - 3.00pm
Unleash your imagination in this hands-on clay workshop! Master basic forming techniques using a structure-building former, then sculpt three unique ladies or gentlemen to create a bespoke hand-painted display. Your sculptures will be dried, fired, and glazed by our tutor and delivered back to The Black Thistle for you to pick up.

Wednesday 23rd October - 10.30am - 3.00pm
Learn the art of rolling and shaping clay to bring your unique visions to life. Using a former to build your base, you’ll have total creative freedom to sculpt a set of three perfectly formed Cottage Garden hanging planters —be they smart town house or run down cottages for a stunning, hand-painted display. Once finished, your tutor will dry, fire, and glaze your sculptures before delivering them back to The Black Thistle for you to collect.
